CIPS Program

CIPS Mission Statement
The Center for Industrial Productivity and Sustainability is dedicated:
- to promote responsible, profitable, and sustainable business practices,
- to create, conduct, promote, and distribute relevant research and information in the areas of business productivity, sustainability, and long-term thinking so these subjects can be shared, researched, and capitalized upon,
- to foster close ties between managers, business communities, and academia,
- to strengthen the world's business communities, increase employment, and reduce environmental degradation, and,
- to work in conjunction with similar, reputable organizations to accomplish the above.
General Information
CIPS is a non-profit business program dedicated to the spreading of the sustainability message and its triple bottom-line profit potential (optimal economic performance, social well-being, and environmental health).
Our aim is to conduct solid research (and collect valid data) so it can be transformed into accessible, thought-provoking information.
Our intent is for this material to make a difference.
To accomplish its goals and achieve its aim and mission, CIPS works in conjunction with other organizations to create similar business-oriented sustainability programs and distribute free educational and application-oriented materials. This material includes:
- Teaching aids for business students, managers, and employees,
- Application aids to help managers and employees implement profitable sustainability-based practices,
- A sustainability database complete with the findings of some of the world's most experienced researchers and practitioners in the field, and,
- Promotional information designed to educate, inform, and spread awareness about the costs and dangers that abound in non-sustainable industrial systems and the profit potential inherent in efficient alternatives.
The vehicle chosen to distribute the data and performance tools created by CIPS is a website called Sustainable Business Performance (SBP), which operates as a collection and distribution point for a number of sustainability-based organizations around the globe.
In other words, CIPS and its colleagues create and conduct coursework and fieldwork and the SBP receives the resulting material, collates it, integrates it, updates it, and distributes it. This allows every individual and organization involved to focus on what each does best
Courses, Seminars, Workshops, and Assessments Conducted by CIPS
CIPS runs a variety of courses, seminars, workshops for businesses and universities and also conducts industrial waste assessments in all types of companies.
Courses, seminars, and workshops can be tailor-made to suit the needs of almost any business or university curriculum and run anywhere from a few hours to 30-hours.
Assessments usually consist of one or two (sometimes three) four-hour visits during which a team of trained individuals thoroughly examines a business and its environment, takes copious notes, and asks a lot of questions. A report that denotes how much money can be saved by initiating basic efficiency practices is submitted within a few weeks (the length of time it takes to produce a report is determined by the size of the assessment). This report is usually accompanied by a presentation that describes what was discovered as well as how the business can implement the recommendations and progress on its own.
